Animal Crossing and Potatoes

If you go online, you have probably seen something about the video game Animal Crossing. Animal Crossing is a social simulation game where your character is given their own island to take care of and have a good time. You can create outfits for your avatar, travel to other islands to find new things, and even visit the islands your friends were given.

I have seen posts about Animal Crossing and sadly, I do not own the console the game is available on. So, I decided that I have nothing else to do and I would really like the chance to buy one for myself. On Friday, my mother asked me if I would like to go and help some farmers for a while. I realized that if I did then I could get some money to save up for what I wanted. I said yes, and now I’m working on the Sparrow Arc Farm, a potato farm, with my mother and stepfather.

At first, I was just putting potatoes in five-pound bags. After filling them for a while, we ran out of sorted and washed potatoes, so we had to go to the belts to get some done. Sorting consisted of me and my mother taking potatoes that have green on them or ones that are rotten and putting them into buckets while the good ones continued on the belts to be put into fifty-pound bags. The fifty-pound bags either get sealed or are put off to the side to be emptied for the five-pound bags.

After around five hours of looking at potatoes and picking up heavy bags, I’m now closer to getting my own island, where I will be able to make my own outfits and go travel to other islands. The work was definitely tough at certain times and boring at others and it definitely tires me out, but I’ll definitely keep working there. It’s not that bad of a job; I kinda enjoy it even if it does make me tired.

Editor’s Note: Since writing this article and publishing it, Jade saved enough money to buy a Nintendo Switch and has ordered Animal Crossing.

This is such a great read. Not only am I impressed and inspired by Jade’s call to action to get herself her own Switch, but I’ve learned more about the processing of potatoes than I ever knew. It’s actually more complicated than I imagined! I’m so glad to hear your hard work has paid off and you’ve been able to get Animal Crossing!! (Truth be told – this is a band wagon I dearly want to hop on!)
