CAB Hosts Trip to Springfield Hockey Game

On Saturday, March 7, the Campus Activities Board (CAB) at NVU-Lyndon hosted a trip to a Springfield Thunderbirds hockey game. The Thunderbirds played a home game against the Providence Bruins.

Seven students and CAB advisor Mike Secreti met to leave for Springfield at 3:00 pm on Saturday and arrived in Springfield around 7:00 pm. At the game, each student received a free ticket and food voucher for one hot dog and one 16 oz soda, or 10% off KFC food items.

CAB Purchased 22 tickets for those who wanted to attend. Students had to fill out forms online in the weekly email to sign-up for the trip.  However, if students wanted to come, they could have just shown up because there were still tickets available by the day of the trip. Secreti said that they hope more people will go on trips to these hockey games if they were more consistent throughout the year. Overall, he stated, “Yeah, everything went well, we even found a parking spot for the van.”

It was “Pink in the Rink” night, a promotion done by the Springfield Thunderbirds to support those who are going through and have gone through having breast cancer. To go along with this promotion, the Thunderbird Community handed out pink light-up wristbands that said “pink in the rink.” Also to celebrate this night, they colored the ice pink.

The trip was enjoyed unanimously by those who attended as the Providence Bruins defeated the Springfield Thunderbirds 4-2. Both teams are part of the Atlantic division of the American Hockey League. Providence now has a record of 36-18-3-3 and Springfield has one of 30-27-3-0.
