CAB Meeting — September 18th, 2018

The Campus Activities Board held its weekly meeting at 5:10 pm on Tuesday, September 18th, in the Rita Bole Community Room.

The meeting began with a review of their past events by CAB president, Sam Lesmerises. These included helping with a very successful BINGO event at the Johnson campus. CAB worked with Dean of Students, Jonathan Davis, to coordinate the festivities. BINGO took place in their dining hall, which is a widely different setup from the BINGO locations used on the Lyndon campus. Prizes included a kayak, smart-tv, laundry kit, NFL corn hole, various NVU gear, and huge packs of candy. The event was well received and by the end of it everyone was asking, “When is the next BINGO?”

Next on the agenda was upcoming events here at Lyndon. These included the Comedian Marina Franklin who performed on Thursday, September 20th and the Family Alumni Weekend which will last from the 21st until the 23rd. Highlights of this weekend include BINGO on Saturday night at 5:30 pm in the Bole Gym, and the Community Celebration which will take place both before and after the evening fireworks. BINGO will be open to students, family, and friends. There are many prizes available, with the grand prize being a Nintendo Switch and Mario Kart. We may or may not have heard mention of mini-fridges, fitbits and baking supplies. You’ll never know unless you go.

The next major event will be tie-dyeing on Tuesday, September 25th from 11 am to 1 pm. This event should occur outside, weather depending. It will feature a lot of cool tie-dyeing opportunities. Rumor has it that there might be kayaking on the pond as well.

Looking further into the future, the CAB Carnival will be hosted on October 2nd from 11 am to 1 pm. It will include food, games, and lots of fun. More details will be revealed as the event draws closer. As if that wasn’t enough to look forward to, Fall Break will occur from October 6th until the 13th. In all the excitement for break, the phrase, “Six Flags on October 20th” may have been mentioned once or twice.

After that, those attending the meeting brainstormed ideas for a large event on the Lyndon campus to attract Johnson students to us. This would make for a nice contrast and perhaps sister-event to Johnson’s yearly Casino Night. Many good ideas were discussed, including: trivia night, mini game shows, big karaoke night, and hosting a joint mini-NVU festival (NVU Fest). CAB welcomes any and all further ideas.

The meeting adjourned at 5:20 pm. CAB meets every Tuesday at 5pm in the Rita Bole Community Room. Stop by a meeting or send them a message at: LyndonCAB@NorthernVermont.edu. Their e-mail is always open for event ideas and suggestions.
