On October 16, the Campus Activities Board hosted a Six Flags trip. Twenty-five people attended the trip, including students, a staff chaperone, their plus one, and a bus driver. The bus left the Stonehenge Parking Lot at 9 am with roughly 20 guests and arrived at the amusement park around noon. Students then spent nearly the entire day at the park; they departed at 9 pm.
CAB paid for each guest’s tickets, a meal voucher, and a fast pass for the Fright Fest haunted houses. CAB bought 30 total tickets, plus one complimentary chaperone ticket, after receiving twenty-seven student signups. However, it was found that some students signed up twice, and others who reserved a seat did not show up at all, leaving CAB with extra tickets that could not be returned due to Six Flags’ policy. However, CAB gave the extra six tickets to a family in the parking lot, so the tickets did not go to waste. According to CAB President Renee Chaples, “this was the most expensive trip of the semester and potentially of the year.”
Students split up and took on the park’s many varied attractions. According to Erica Lynn Shea, “It was fun and eventful. I had a great time with my friends. We pushed each other to go on rides we didn’t want to go on.” There are nearly 60 rides at Six Flags, and students had the whole day to try as many as they liked. Student Jessyka Hart said, “My favorite part of the trip was hanging out with my friends.”
It wasn’t just a typical day at the park. Six Flags was hosting their Fright Fest event. Starting at 6 pm, the whole park became overrun with monsters. Actors took over zones of the park and would scare anyone who dared to walk near them. A back section of the park was opened up at the evening hour, as well, and offered five haunted house attractions. Thanks to the Fright Fast passes bought for students, they could skip the lines altogether.
