Do Winter Sports Still Have a Chance?

The Northern Atlantic Conference Presidents’ Council met on Friday in a discussion on winter sports.  They concluded that winter sports will have tentative plans to start in the spring semester.  The council will meet in January to finalize the decision.

Currently, according to the NAC’s website, “Tentative plans to begin conference basketball games January 29, 2021, remain on hold for now. The conference has several options for adjusting the planned schedule as needed in response to the pandemic.”

Freshman men’s basketball player Yusuf Elhag stated  “It was great news; super excited that we will have a chance to play.  I have worked hard and the team has worked hard to get here.”

Winter sports are not the only ones who might have a chance to play this upcoming semester. During the council, there was a discussion on fall sports playing a shortened season in the spring.  That is still on the table, as well.

This, however, was quickly followed up by a statement from Northern Vermont University.  This release stated that winter sports practices and S.H.A.P.E. facilities will be closed until further notice due to the increased risk of contracting COVID.
