Investment Club says, “Perseverance is Worth It”

A new club is on the rise, one that hopes to teach people how to invest in their future by educating NVU-Lyndon students on understanding the stock market, bonds, and other investing opportunities. The Student Investment Club is like a second chapter of the former club “Student Investment Group,” which had dissolved several years ago. Professor Stephanie Giese approached her students specializing in business administration, asking if they would be interested in restarting the Investment Club.

Now, the club has already formulated its executive board. Shane Johnston serves as President, Oliver Cole as Vice President, Jesse Munroe as SGA Representative, Stephen Sandor as Treasurer, and Caleb Chase as Secretary. They are joined by fellow members Brian Lamoureux and Ben Heckler. Altogether, these individuals hold the drive and passion for investing. Not to mention, this was a great opportunity to help educate their peers.

Sandor, who also serves as an RA, said, “The Investment Club is a great opportunity for me and anyone else remotely interested in the subject matter because it promotes working in a group and real-world experience, which would be very valuable in almost anyone’s future.”

Ultimately, Investment Club will offer students the ability to use what they learn here and apply their gained knowledge in their own lives. By using simulations to make real investments, students can learn how to actually grow their accounts for use in years to come.

The club is gearing up for the upcoming Fall 2020 semester. Their How The Market Works online competition will be taking place, the executive board has been virtually working on their budget proposal, and plans for club advertising are underway.

Cole told The Critic, “Investing in a better tomorrow is our motto, offering students a way into the financial world that many know of, but few know about,” and in custom NVU-Lyndon spirit, concluded with, “We’re here to bridge that gap, and there’s a sense of pride in doing so.”
