Letter From the Editor: The Critic is Ready for a New Decade!

Dear Northern Vermont University – Lyndon,

As of January 21, we began our fourth semester of Northern Vermont University on both the Lyndon and Johnson campuses. Students have been in classes for a little over two weeks, and thus, The Critic has been back up and writing!

In last semester’s letter, I (Alexandra Huff) declared several goals for The Critic over the 2019-2020 academic year: expansion of members/audience, author pages, and expansion of subjects. We have been making slow and steady progress towards these goals. However, the current plan is to attack the Spring 2020 semester at full throttle!

Last semester, we published 44 articles online written by 12 different authors. We held six club meetings that averaged seven members ranging from “staff” and “contributor” status in attendance. This semester, we have already surpassed attendance at our first meeting and foresee the pattern of growth to continue. We are also on track to surpass 44 articles over the course of a semester with more of our members becoming active publishers. Our numbers are also growing in contributors, so we will be featuring more voices with more diverse content.

We will also be making significant progress on author biographies and pictures for our contributors this semester. The Critic is reaching out to former members and inviting them to submit pictures and biographies, or update what is currently published. Our club meeting this Friday, February 7, will bpartially dedicated to our current members writing small biographies and having professional pictures done. We hope that these efforts will help make our website and our individual authors look more professional to the public eye.

The Critic set up a table at Lyndon Day, January 31. We were able to show off our new table runner, pens, and table stands, as well as old printed editions of The Critic.

As of now, we still have three Executive Board positions open, but elections for the 2020-2021 school year are scheduled to happen in April. The Critic always has its arms open to any new staff members and contributors who are looking to write, draw, take pictures, and tell stories for us.

We will continue to have biweekly meetings on Fridays at 4:00 PM in the WWLR Lounge. We welcome anyone to join us to discuss article ideas that are of interest to the NVU-Lyndon communityOur schedule of meetings for the rest of the semester is as follows:

February 7

March 6

March 20

April 17

May 1

May 8

Thank you for a great fall semester and your continued support online! Cheers to the new decade and continued uprising of The Critic!

Sincerely,

Alexandra Huff
