Letter to the Editor: End of The Year

Northern Vermont University – Lyndon,

As we are approaching finals week, I want everyone to remember all you have overcome this year. The academic year of 2020-2021 was one like no other. We took classes over Zoom; we wore masks 24/7; we had to refrain from cross household travel; we had so many other guidelines to follow. At the end of the day, we did it. We completed a school year that no other year will ever compare to. Each and every student here at NVU-Lyndon should be proud of themselves.

We all put in the effort to follow COVID-19 protocols and that was proven with our overall low COVID case count. Heading into the summer, we are seeing the State of Vermont lift some of their COVID restrictions and travel guidelines, allowing us to anticipate an almost normal academic year for 2021-2022. I, as well as many NVU officials, have high hopes we will have little to no restrictions in the upcoming academic year, although this decision is ultimately up to the Vermont State Colleges System.

As we head towards summer, I want to wish everyone a happy and safe summer. I cannot wait to see the majority of you back on campus in the fall. Take this summer to decompress from the stress of COVID-19 and prepare yourself for all the fun events and activities we can all participate in next year.

To the graduating seniors, CONGRATULATIONS! Your college experience ended during a pandemic and, although I assume none of you are happy to be graduating during COVID, you all should be proud of the dedication you continued to put into your education and the ability you all have to persevere. Graduation may look a little different than you anticipated upon entering college, but NVU is doing the best they can to give the Class of 2021 the graduation they deserve. Again, congratulations, and I wish you all the best of luck in your future endeavors. Lyndon cannot wait to see you back on campus for Alumni Weekend and other future events.

Thanks for a great year everyone. I will see you next Fall. Until then, stay safe and have a great summer!

Sincerely,

SGA President, Gill MacDonald
