The Lyndon campus’ SGA is already holding a special election this fall semester to fill as many roles as possible within the new SGA structure. The hope, though, is to fill at least four specific positions. The positions in question are Executive Vice President, Treasurer, Senator, and Congressional Clerk.
When the new SGA constitution was brought to the Lyndon campus, a few students were concerned that we wouldn’t be able to fill all the necessary positions. This concern came true this semester when it was announced that we would already be planning a special election at the first SGA Meeting of the semester.
In last semester’s election, Castleton managed to fill 20 positions while Johnson, Lyndon, and Randolph managed to fill only 5 positions. The Satellite/Online Student Government managed to fill 2 positions.
Two people resigned from their positions before the semester started. One was Alberto Bustamante, formerly elected to be one of our two senators. The other was Shania LaPlante, formerly elected to be our Executive Vice President.
Anyone who is interested in running for a position in Congress must complete an application that requires 20 student signatures, a signature from an academic department faculty member, a current Student Government Association member, and a Student Life Professional Staff. A full list of available positions within SGA can be found in the drafted bylaws. Applications are due no later than Friday, September 20th.
Once all applications are in, the voting cycle will run from the 23rd to the 27th for students who take classes on the Lyndon Campus. For online students, there will be two extra days of voting, the 28th and 29th.
