Lyndon vs. Husson: NAC Opener

This past Friday, November 30th, the Lyndon Hornets hosted their North Atlantic Conference openers against the Husson Eagles, both the men’s and women’s basketball teams falling short. The men’s game was first, ending with a score of 64-96 in favor of the visitors. The women followed up the loss with a smaller marginal loss of 45-72.

The men’s game started at 5:30PM. Within the first three minutes, Husson was able to gain a nine-point lead. Lyndon freshman Zach Falkenburg scored the first points for the Hornets with a two-point layup followed by a successful foul shot.

The Eagles seemed to be making twice as many successful shots as Lyndon as the first half of the game progressed. Both teams were not only trying to win, but trying to be flashy with their moves, resulting in lots of opposing rebounds and steals on both sides. The half ended with a score of 25-52 in favor of Husson.

The second half began with fair back and forth action, each team scoring a basket after the other. In the end, the Hornets were not able to make up the score difference. Husson freshman Isiah Hart dribbled the ball until the buzzer sounded. The final score was 64-96, Lyndon sophomore Ricky Shuford scoring 12 of those points.

After the Hornet defeat, the women’s teams from both universities stepped onto the court for their matchup. Husson won the tip-off, but Lyndon was able to work together and keep the Eagles from scoring for the first two minutes of the game. Following Husson’s first two-point layup, Lyndon junior Alissa Mitchell immediately returned the favor to put the Hornets on the board. The lady Hornets were able to keep pace with the Eagles for half of the first quarter before the opponents started to pull ahead. By halftime, the score was 15-37 in favor of Husson.

Lyndon stepped onto the court for the second half of the game with a renewed energy, but so did Husson. The Eagles continued to lengthen their lead, the third quarter being built around foul shots. By the fourth quarter, Lyndon started to gain a momentum and closed the margin between the two scores. There was not enough time in the game, however, resulting in a final score of 45-72. Lyndon senior Victoria Carlson was noted for scoring the most points for the Hornets (ten points).

The men’s basketball team will see their next home contest on January 3 against Eastern Nazarene at 3:00PM. The women’s next home game will be on January 11 at 7:30PM against University of Maine – Farmington. This will be another North Atlantic Conference contest. We look forward to seeing you in Lyndon colors at these games!
