Men’s Soccer Sees First Point in Sixth Game

Following Friday’s loss to Rivier University, the Lyndon Hornets stood tall during their Sunday contest against Bryant & Stratton College. September 15, 2019 was arguably Lyndon’s strongest showing of the season thus far, even though the game ended in favor of the visiting Bobcats, 1-4. This was a contest worth every single second of gameplay.

Lyndon took possession of the ball early into the second half, and their defense unified beyond what has been seen on the field so far this season. Every shot the Bobcats took was far from the goal, allowing the defense and goalie Caleb Derbyshire (88) to calmly regain control of the ball. The composure and the drive to win showed the strength of the team.

Lyndon sophomore Luc Parrett (9) drives the ball forward for the Hornets.

With twenty-three minutes remaining, Kyle Lamb (10) of Bryant & Stratton scored a goal off of a direct kick. The ball hit the goal post, just past Derbyshire’s reach, and bounced itself into the net. However, the Hornets soon retaliated with a successful penalty kick from senior Sam Ognenoff (2) three minutes later. Ognenoff’s PK was the Hornet’s first point of the season, and fans declare it won’t be their last.

Following the tied scored of 1-1, Bryant & Stratton took more shots on goal, trying to gain the lead. The Hornets refused to let another ball in for the remainder of the half.

Lyndon freshman Drew Germain (18) stops Bryant & Stratton from progressing any closer to the goal.

However, after the short halftime break, Bryant & Stratton stepped onto the field with more determination. Lamb was able to slip another ball past Derbyshire within the first couple of minutes. This lit a fire under the Lyndon Hornets. They showed major control of the ball and passion for the sport. Fans commented that Lyndon didn’t want another goal, Lyndon needed it.

The Bobcats were quick to crash the goal despite Lyndon’s efforts. With half an hour remaining, Yerson Rosalina (32) sent a ball into the back of the net, supported by the other Bobcats. Finally, as planes flew over the field, with ten minutes to go, Bryant & Stratton player Joe Annas (8) scored the final point of the game.

Defensive sophomore Javen Reinhardt (19) is seen dribbling the ball up the field towards Lyndon’s offense.

Derbyshire saved nine shots throughout the game, preventing the final score from being any higher than 1-4. Overall, it was a great game to witness, and the passion our Hornets showed on the field was inspiring.

The Men’s Soccer team sees SUNY Canton during Homecoming Weekend this coming Saturday, September 21 at 1:00PM. The game, as usual, will take place on the Varsity Soccer Field outside the S.H.A.P.E. facilities. We hope to see you supporting our Hornets and their continued growth as a team!
