Northern Vermont University – Lyndon is a small school, but it offers many clubs for anyone to join, such as the Ski & Ride, Rugby, and The Critic. Another club is currently in the process of forming and may join the ranks soon: NVU-Lyndon BIPOC.
BIPOC is an acronym that stands for Black, Indigenous, and People of Color. The campus group is headed by Jordan Cane, a first-year student at NVU-Lyndon. According to Cane, the club is both a part of a larger movement of racial equality around the world and targets issues within the school campus, such as racial discrimination. “Overall, it is a part of the growth of battling racism in our country… [and will] create zero-tolerance at our university,” Cane said. “It’s a safe place for people to let their emotions out.”
Anyone can join BIPOC, according to Cane. “The goal is to be open to all people who are looking to get educated on racism.”
As of now, there is no set meeting time or schedule, or if communication will be extended beyond the current semester. If anyone is interested in joining BIPOC NVU-Lyndon or has any questions about the group, contact Jordan Cane via Instagram or email.
NVU-Lyndon BIPOC will be looking to apply through the Student Government for SGA-affiliated membership in the future.
