The New England Newspaper & Press Association (NENPA) awards up to ten scholarships annually through the Journalism Education Foundation of New England. Previously, these scholarships have been worth $1,000. For the 2021 applications, winning students will receive $2,000. Their website says that the mission of these funds and the organizations are “to encourage and support young people who plan to pursue a career in the newspaper industry.”
The application process has been updated to an online Google form. Applicants are asked to fill out their contact information and then upload a cover letter, a transcript, a letter of recommendation, a resume, and a sample of writing. Applicants will need to sign in to a Google account when submitting these files.
To be eligible for these scholarships, applying students must be residents of New England (Maine, New Hampshire, Vermont, Massachusetts, Connecticut, or Rhode Island). The scholarship is open to both high school seniors and undergraduate college students that plan to study/are studying Journalism or any related field(s). All student applicants must have a GPA of 3.0 or higher.
