Northern Vermont University President Elaine Collins has announced the formation of the NVU Strong Advisory Committee in light of recent events surrounding NVU and the Vermont State Colleges System.
NVU has been collecting suggestions and ideas on how to move forward and strengthen the university. In an email to the NVU community, Collins wrote that this new committee was going to be designated to carefully considering those ideas that have been collected. At the end of May, the committee will deliver a report to President Collins. She will then submit “NVU’s proposed model and initiatives for sustainability to the Vermont State Colleges System Board of Trustees” in June.
The NVU Strong Advisory Committee is set to consist of 13-17 individuals representing students, faculty, staff, alumni, and community members of both NVU campuses and NVU Online. NVU Provost Nolan Atkins is set to serve as the Chair of this committee.
President Collins is looking for nominations of persons to serve on this committee. Nominations can be made at NorthernVermont.edu/StrongFuture by anyone (self-nominees included) until Thursday, May 7 at 5:00 PM. Nominations will be approved of by the Northern Vermont University Executive Team.
Committee members are expected to show a strong time commitment from May 11 to June 1 as they deliberate. Further information regarding specific meeting dates and expectations can be found at NorthernVermont.edu/StrongFuture.
Additionally, an NVU Strong Kickoff is being held at 11:30 on Thursday, May 7. The meeting will take place over Zoom, which can be accessed by emailing Darcie Miles, and Youtube. “Pertinent information about NVU and strategies and ideas submitted to date” will be shared at this meeting.
