The Lyndon Hornets women’s team had a very successful season last year as they finished with a record of 14-12. The Hornet’s qualified for the North Atlantic Conference (NAC) tournament where they were eventually defeated in the quarter finals. The expectations are high for them this year as they look to build off of what they accomplished last year.
The pre-season coaches poll has the Hornets predicted to be third in the NAC out of the eight teams in the conference. This is high praise for them to live up to. With some key players returning and some key additions joining the team this year, the Hornet’s should be able to exceed expectations.
Some crucial returnees to the team include Victoria Carlson (senior), Alyssa Mitchell (junior), Alisha Celley (sophomore), and Faith Poirier (sophomore). This solid core of players should be able to use their skills and experience to lead this team to success. Five freshmen have also been added to the team this year. These freshmen have a great group of upperclassmen to learn from as the try to develop and improve as the year progresses. This mix of youth and experience should help the Hornets get better and better as they try to make a deeper run in the conference tournament this time around.
The Hornet’s first game was on Thursday, November 8th where they started off strong with a 79-69 victory over St. Joseph. Their next game was on Saturday, November 10th, at 5:00 pm. The game is at NVU-Johnson as it is part of the Northern Vermont University Classic. The lady Hornets are going to be looking to carry their momentum from Thursday’s game in to this game as the try to pull out another win. The Hornets are off to a great start and the future looks bright for the remainder of the season.
