As students enter classrooms and Zoom calls for the first time of the spring semester, Northern Vermont University – Lyndon is also reporting the first confirmed positive case of COVID-19 on-campus. The positive test was part of Day 0 testing where every returning student, commuter or residential, was tested over the weekend before partaking in campus activities. The student is in isolation and contact tracing is “well underway” according to NVU administration.
Since January 7, 979 tests have been administered across the NVU campuses. This includes early arrivals such as athletes and student leaders, who had returned at staggered dates over the last month, and NVU employees.
Of the 2020-2021 school year, this is the first residential student on either NVU campus to have COVID-19.
NVU President Elaine Collins is looking to remind students that Day 0 and Day 7 COVID-19 tests are required. Day 7 tests will be administered on February 5 and February 6. Wearing masks and daily symptom checks are required to enter the NVU campuses.
The next available testing days will be February 2 and February 4 from 11:30 AM to 1:00 PM in the Moore Community Room (ASAC 100). Even if students test on these days, a “Day 7” test will be required. A full testing schedule for the semester can be found at NVU’s website.
