Northern Vermont University launched its “gratefulness” campaign for Giving Tuesday on November 30 to raise $15,000 from 150 donors. While the donor goal was not met, the NVU community exceeded the donation goal as the university raised $18,419 within 24 hours.
During the campaign, Interim President John Mills challenged the NVU community to raise $10,000 as quickly as possible. That challenge was met, and President Mills donated $2,500 to the cause.
The Alumni Offices also offered an incentive: any donors that generated five donations were eligible to receive an NVU alumni blanket. Two blankets were given to donors who met this challenge.
Donors had the option to choose where their donations went. They specified which campus—Lyndon or Johnson—and what cause their gift was directed to, such as a scholarship fund, the new Learning and Working Community, and athletics.
114 people donated to the campaign, two of which are current students of the Lyndon campus. First-year Felicity Flores is one of those students, telling The Critic, “I saw there was a set goal. I donated because I wanted to be part of the change other students were creating.” Most donations came from NVU alumni, totaling $10,215 from 75 donors. Donations came from over 20 states across the U.S.
While the Giving Tuesday campaign has ended, NVU accepts donations year-round through GiveCampus.
