Spring Day Weekend has been a long-standing tradition on the NVU-Lyndon campus, but not everyone was able to enjoy it this year. Some found it hard to attend events between being remote and attending extracurriculars like sporting events and the Northeastern Storm Conference. However, the Spring Day Committee has put together care packages for students who missed out, including last year’s graduates.
Student Government Executive Vice President Kaitlin Flannigan is in charge of planning Spring Day. With a team of other student leaders, the Spring Day Committee had an interest in sending out care packages to students who missed Spring Day last year because of the pandemic, and those who would also miss out this year under similar circumstances. “We did not think we had the ability to make this happen,” Flannigan admitted. However, when the Director of Student Life Erin Rossetti brought the idea forward at a March SGA meeting, the committee set to work.
Flannigan says that including the Class of 2020 in these efforts is to make up for the tradition COVID-19 took away from them. “The graduating class from last year missed out… That fact alone made it important to at least try to get them some of the things they missed out on.”
Regarding NVU-Lyndon’s remote student body, Flannigan said, “Our remote students deserve to experience Spring [Day] Weekend just as much as our campus-based students.” The idea of sending out Spring Day swag was “one way we can keep them included.”
The care packages include a stress ball, a cup, a bottle opener, and a t-shirt. The shirts come in red, white, or blue. Students are asked to provide their shirt size and choose a color in the sign-up form for care packages.
Picnic throws were a last-minute item added to the care packages. “At the beginning, we were unsure if the picnic throws would fit in the boxes,” Flannigan said. “I am happy to report that they do and we are sending them out, as well.” The picnic throws come in red and blue variants.
There is no set deadline as to when recent alumni or current students need to ask for Spring Day merchandise. Flannigan says the service will continue while supplies last.
