SGA Meeting – April 3, 2019

The fifth Student Government Association meeting of the semester was held on April 3rd at 8:01pm in the Moore Community Room (ASAC 100).  This was a shorter SGA meeting than usual, but that doesn’t mean there wasn’t anything important discussed.

In Student Body Comments, the topic of plowing was brought up again, this time centered around the Veteran’s bench by the pond.  The melting snow revealed that it had been knocked over by the plows, and several students spoke up asking for the plowers to be more careful next season.  An idea was also brought up to place some markers around campus to give the plowers some indication of where not to plow.

Reports and Presentations brought up a couple upcoming events.  The Community Conversation will be on Thursday, April 18th at 12:00pm in ASAC 100.  Petitions and applications for the SGA executive board positions are due on Friday, April 19th by 4:00pm.  Voting for these positions will occur between April 22nd and 26th.  The Financial Update revealed that the general fund is at $10,935.  Budget forms are due on Wednesday, April 17th by 4:00pm, and budget presentations will happen on the 18th.  Each club will be sent an email about what time they will be presenting.

Club Updates were fairly brief.  The 10% Committee made a point that Lyndon and Johnson’s branding is trying to edge away from sub-branding each campus as Lyndon and Johnson respectively, and that they want to present each campus as simply NVU.  The RAs and Peer Leaders are working on their respective hiring processes, and the RAs revealed the idea of themed housing in certain resident halls.  These include Wellness and Gender-Inclusive suites in Wheelock, an Adventure suite in Poland, a 24-Hour Quiet Hours suite in Bayley, and Transfer student housing will be dedicated to the top floor of Arnold.

Most clubs held elections and announced their new Exec Boards for next year.  Admissions stated that another Accepted Student Day will be coming up this Friday, so head over there to reserve a table if your club is interested.  Clubs also brought up their plans for Spring Day.  Ultimate Frisbee will be hosing a Can Jam tournament, Veterans Club will be doing an Easter egg Hunt, and of course the Twilight Players will be premiering Edwin Drood.

The meeting ended at 8:44pm.  The next meeting is this Wednesday, April 17th, same time and same place.  We hope to see you there!
