This week’s Student Government Association meeting took place on October 17th at 8:02 pm, in the Moore Community Room.
The first discussion item was about the 10% Committee, which is looking for more members. Led by Jonathan Davis, the committee is centered around taking 10% of the general fund (5% from the SGA and 5% from CAB) and finding ways to use it to improve things on campus. If you’re curious about what they have done in the past, take a look at the green picnic tables around campus, the charging table in the Student Center, or, most recently, the Do North water bottles. Another item of discussion was the Safe Ride program brought up at the last meeting. A branch may soon be in the works for the Lyndon campus, and they are taking names for people interested in joining the committee or being drivers.
A new club has been recognized by the SGA: The Intervarsity Christian Fellowship, which has been brought up for recognition before. The club is a singular branch of a bigger fellowship, with branches on college campuses all across the country. They are a Christian missionary group focused on the Gospel and Bible, and are devoted to spreading awareness of Jesus. They welcome anyone to the club who is interested, regardless of your religious beliefs. They were recognized as a club with a majority vote.
In other news, Wheelock’s first floor is reopened to the public after the flooding. However, the basement floor is still under construction. SGA is already planning for Spring Day 2019 and have an idea to consider as a promotion. Last year, a beautiful video was put together with footage from Spring Day 2018, and this year, they would like to put together a lip dub video featuring all the clubs on campus. They have also considered making it a contest between the Lyndon and Johnson campus, with both making lip dub videos and holding a vote on which one is better. This would also further push the union of both campuses.
The meeting adjourned at 8:52 pm. The next meeting will take place on Halloween, October 31st! It will take place at 8:00 pm, in the Moore Community Room.
