The third SGA meeting of the fall semester took place at 8 pm on September 23 in the Moore Community Room (ASAC 100) and virtually via Zoom. As usual, the meeting was livestreamed on the SGA’s Facebook page, so check it out if you’d like to get more information about the meeting’s events.
To start, there were no student body comments to speak of. Mike Secreti provided the financial update. The available funds are at $65,473.42 and the total is $98,023.42. The reason for these changes is due to the acquisition of this year’s Student Activity Fee allocation ($191,244.00). Last week’s presented numbers were an estimation based on last year’s received allocation.
The Student Activities account discovered last year was brought up at the previous SGA meeting, so Secreti prepared a slide to summarize what the account is for those unfamiliar with it. The account was created in 2018 by Sheila Evans, the financial controller of VSC. It was created as a parent account for student activities, and it was accumulated from old safety nets from the NVU merger. It had been rediscovered in fall 2019, and the balance is approximately $97,000. The balance still exists, and discussions were held about what to do with the funds up until the COVID-19 pandemic, when the funds were frozen.
In discussion and action items, The Critic presented the changes that were made to our constitution. Editor-in-Chief Alex Huff summarized the changes, which included correcting some grammar issues, modifying the voting rules, and a multitude of other things. The amendments were passed with a majority vote. CAB also received a passing vote for their constitution changes. Adrianne Hutchin was going to present her campaign for VSCSA Representative but withdrew due to scheduling conflicts. Katie Flannigan then requested a vote to allow her to separate her role as Executive Vice President from her role as Treasurer for The Critic so she could still do both. The request passed with a majority vote.
Ultimate Frisbee then presented for a funding request. They missed the deadline to submit their budget request, so they presented it here. They requested a total of $2,047 for all of the merchandise and equipment they would need and/or want for the year. The highlight would be customized jerseys, and they would come at no charge for those who ordered any before the pandemic and never received them as a result. The SGA passed the request with a majority vote.
In other business, Adrianne and Katie attended the latest VSCA meeting and shared their experiences. Katie talked about her chats with the Johnson campus reps and asked about what plan was in place in case the campuses were evacuated again due to a COVID flareup. There is a plan in place, but hopefully, it shouldn’t have to be executed. Additionally, Trunk or Treat has unfortunately been canceled this year because of COVID.
Administrative Vice President Renee Chaples shared a correction she needed to make regarding her announcement about the NVU merchandise from last meeting. She failed to mention that the bookstore will be revamping all of their merchandise, including the campus-specific items, so they will not be moving to just general NVU items.
For club and committee updates, most clubs simply stated their meeting times with no new or significant updates. With that, the meeting was adjourned at 9:06 pm. The next meeting will be held on October 7, same time and same place. We hope to see you there!
