The fifth SGA meeting of the semester took place on Wednesday, April 1 at 8:05pm. It took place over Zoom, and the recording is available on the SGA’s Facebook in case you missed it. Since this meeting took place only a week after the previous one, there were fewer items to discuss than usual.
The VSCSA is looking for applicants for a representative from NVU for their board of trustees, so if you’re interested, make sure to get your application in by April 22. For more information, interested students are encouraged to contact the Dean of Students, Jonathan Davis.
With the switch to online communication, the SGA had a long discussion about possibly setting up a Discord or Microsoft Teams server so clubs can have one place to communicate with each other, as well as have a commonplace for the clubs themselves to easily communicate with their members. Several members of the SGA and the staff of NVU expressed interest in the idea, so keep an eye out for news about it.
During question time, some critical topics came up. The first was how to submit scholarship applications and receive missing financial aid documents during the quarantine period. Jonathan Davis suggested that he could get in contact with Student Services to get more detailed answers, and that in the meantime, students can contact them at studentservices@northernvermont.edu if they have more questions.
Another question came up regarding graduation, and whether there was some way to recognize the graduates before the rescheduled commencement in May 2021. An idea circulated about Athletics running a recognition post on their social media, or perhaps holding a virtual assembly over Zoom or another video-calling program for seniors to tune in to. Furthermore, it was suggested that a tradition be made of recognizing graduates each year, and not just make this a one-year exception due to the circumstances. The heads of the athletics department will be contacted about the idea.
Finally, the topic of housing selection came up, specifically how that will be accomplished due to the circumstances. Erin Rossetti described that housing selection would take place online, and that selection day would be rescheduled for April 27 to allow for more time to get the program ready and host more housing information sessions. It would also allow for more time to get housing deposits and contracts completed. Keep an eye on your NVU email, as Erin has sent out some more concrete information and important links regarding housing selection.
The meeting concluded at 9:00pm. The next meeting will take place on April 13th at the same time as usual via Zoom. We hope you’ll tune in then and join us!
