SGA Welcomes Occult Club

Last Wednesday, the Student Government Association voted to welcome a new club to its ranks. The Occult Club was approved by a majority vote.

President Robin Granito and Vice President Max Lovegrove presented the club idea to the SGA. Both are first-years at Lyndon. They came together with a bunch of friends to create the Occult Club in hopes to create a niche outlet. “We were very surprised and a little overwhelmed when we had the idea and people were encouraging us about it,” Lovegrove said.

The idea of Occult Club is to celebrate all things “supernatural, mythical, spooky, and that sort of vibe” year-round, Granito said, and its approval is just in time for October’s spooky season.

Occult Club is looking at holding movie nights and scary stories around the firepit in the near future. “We want to help with campus ghost tours. We want to help with CAB’s Monster Bash. And we want to plan our own events,” Granito told the SGA. Both club leaders expressed interest in helping with Halloweek activities at the end of the month, too.

The club plans to meet every other Saturday at 6:00 pm with a location still to be determined. Occult Club wants to meet outside before it gets too much colder, but indoor rooms for consideration include HAC 111 and the Rita Bole Community Room.

If students can’t make these meetings, no worries! The Occult Club has its own Discord server where members can participate in online discussions and activities. “We want to make this as flexible as possible for everybody,” Lovegrove said.

Elizabeth Sousa, Head Resident of Wheelock and Assistant to the Dean of Students, will serve as the Occult Club’s advisor. In a separate interview with The Critic, she said she’s very excited about this new club and new opportunity for students to get together and bond. “I think it’ll be a fun opportunity for people to explore,” she said.

After their acceptance into the SGA, Occult Club shared that they will be looking at making a small funding request of $500 in the future. This request could be approved or denied by the SGA executive board without having to go before the general board.

To join the Occult Club, students are encouraged to reach out to Granito, Lovegrove, club secretary Gwen Zeno, or club treasurer Evan Colman.
