The Critic is getting spooky for the upcoming Halloween season. In conjunction with other themed events being planned for next week, the campus newspaper is hosting a Spooky Media Contest until Friday, October 29 at 5:00 PM.
“We’re excited about getting our NVU community more involved with The Critic in upcoming contests and projects such as this,” says Editor-in-Chief Alexandra Huff. Anyone can enter The Critic’s contest, but only NVU-Lyndon students are eligible for the grand prize. Submissions can be made in each of the following categories: Art, Stories, Videos, Photos, and Miscellaneous. The Critic will accept any number of submissions in one or multiple categories by a single entrant.
A winner will be selected from each of the five categories and be recognized with a certificate. Out of those five winners, a grand prize winner will be chosen as “Best in Show.” The judging panel will be looking at creativity, whether the submission fits the Halloween theme, and overall quality. “Use this as an opportunity to display not only creativity, but your skill,” says The Critic Secretary Dakota McWee.
Submissions can be emailed to TheCritic@NorthernVermont.edu or brought to the newspaper’s office located in ACT 230B.
The grand prize includes The Critic merchandise, Stephen King’s “Scary Stories” series, seasonal tea, and a Halloween snack crate, totaling over $50. This grand prize is co-sponsored by the Student Government Association.
Winners will be announced at Halloweek in the Park on Saturday, October 30 starting at 11:30 AM. All submissions will be on display at The Critic’s table, as well. They will also be posted on The Critic’s website, with all non-winning entries posted together and all winning entries published by themselves.
