Students Put Their Basketball Skills to the Test

On Friday, March 26 the Northern Vermont University – Lyndon campus had a basketball skills competition. The competition, run by Peyton Olsen, attracted 12 students to compete. Most of these athletes were NVU-Lyndon men’s basketball players, however, Edward McNeil, Raymond Ezrike, men’s basketball student assistant James Salves, and women’s basketball players Nyah Garner and Danielle Robinson were also in the mix.

The participants were placed in a double-elimination bracket where they would face off head-to-head in a race. The race started off with dribbling a basketball and weaving through chairs, then passing through a hula hoop, making a layup, and finally making a 3 point shot. Everyone played at least two rounds in the bracket.

There were two prizes and awards given out in the challenge, one going to the overall champion from the bracket and the other being the participant with the fastest time. Jeremy Peralta claimed both of these awards after going undefeated in the bracket while also posting the fastest time of 18.2 seconds. Peralta’s prizes included a basketball and a couple of t-shirts.

Olsen, the one who organized the event, said, “it was a pretty decent turnout. I’m glad we got a couple of non-basketball players to participate.” This event was held for Peyton’s Athletic Facility class. Other events from this class will be coming up such as Luke Fredsell will be holding a 3-point contest and Seleena Porter will be holding a softball event.
