Students Want Another Winter Ball

A winter-themed ball filled with snowflakes and a white and blue color scheme filled Burke Mountain’s ballroom on Friday, March 4th, 2022. NVU-Lyndon students danced their hearts out at the Winter Ball hosted by SGA, which turned out to be a huge success.

Due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, it has been hard for the campus to run events like this. Back when the school was still known as Lyndon State College, the American Meteorology Society (A.M.S.) used to hold a Winter Ball to raise money to fund the Northeastern Storm Conference. The return of the Winter Ball is a mix of bringing back an old tradition and creating something new, according to the Assistant Director of Student Life Katie Campbell. “With COVID, we had to kind of stop some of those traditional programs, so we took this sort of old idea and revamped it,” she told The Critic.

With new events, there are bound to come with some flaws. Second-year Viktoria Provencher reflected on the things that could’ve been done to better improve the experience. “A different DJ, more drinks for people who can’t drink alcohol because there was just water, and better, more specific directions to the place.”

About 140 tickets were sold. These attendees confirmed that the event, in the end, was well-received. Fellow second-year student Thomas Decker said, “It was a great experience, and I would recommend anyone, whether it’s your ‘cup of tea’ or not, to at least go with some friends and have some fun for a while.”

The aftermath shows that the ball is an event that is here to stay at NVU-Lyndon for the foreseeable future. Feedback forms have been sent to attendees, and Campbell stated that out of 51 people that filled out the forms, 47 said they wanted to see a ball again next year.
