Summer Housing is Available

Northern Vermont University – Lyndon is reopening the opportunity for students to stay on campus over the summer break. However, this service returns with new developments for the restrictions regarding COVID-19 policies and procedures.

The Lyndon campus often hosts many conferences and camps during the summer. Although COVID-19 halted this service last year, many of these conferences are tentatively returning. Due to this, space is limited for students. Director of Student Life Erin Rossetti shared that 2021 summer housing will be offered on a first-come, first-served basis. Applications for summer housing are currently available virtually through NVU-Lyndon’s eRez platform. In order for a student to qualify for housing, they must either be employees of the campus, taking a summer course, or doing an internship fulfilling a graduation requirement. Any other applications will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis.

Students approved for summer housing will be moved into one of the few available Rita Bole suites designated for NVU-Lyndon students. Since dining hall services will not be available during the season, students are moved into apartment-style housing for easier kitchen access to cook meals.

Housing will be charged to students at $75 per week. Unlike semester housing, contracts are reflected on a weekly basis as opposed to a semesterly basis. Students may leave their summer housing at any point, but will not be able to return without prior approval from Residential Life.

Regular break housing policies such as a zero-tolerance policy regarding alcohol regardless of a resident’s age and 24-hour quiet hours will be enforced in addition to the normal housing policies for students. More information regarding housing and housing policies is available both online at the NVU website and in the NVU Student handbook.

Students will be expected to adhere to the continued COVID-19 policies from previous semesters, including masks in public areas, no cross-household gathering, and no out-of-state traveling without quarantine. Although the state is loosening the ropes on these restrictions, both NVU campuses have continued to enforce strict COVID restrictions in order to assure the safety of their residential and commuting students.

A new policy for summer housing is the requirement for all students spending their summer at NVU-Lyndon to have either a documented appointment to receive a COVID-19 vaccination, or have had one or full doses administered. This new expectation helps with the limitations of COVID-19 testing during break housing and to decrease the risk of disease spread.

Students who are in need of summer housing should apply as soon as possible. The deadline is set for May 15th when the semester concludes, or when all rooms have been filled.
